Hotel Deals and All That Jazz
Each summer the UK can promise three things: changeable weather; packed beer gardens; and an enviable line up of music festivals. Pleasingly, hotel deals at many of the cheap hotels around the UK mean that you don’t have to combine your festival experience with the dodgy weather – you can stay in comfort instead.
Not all festivals are confined to the summer and you can see great jazz acts all year, but when the weather warms up it’s particularly enjoyable. Of course, with festivals happening all year there’s guaranteed to be an event that suits every music lover. Festival locations range from from remote little farms to hectic town centres, so you have the choice of short trip out or a full weekend break.
If you’re worried that the unreliable English weather might ruin your festival experience then the Chichester Real Ale and Jazz Festival from 19th July is a great option as it is held undercover at Priory Park close to the town’s many hotels. An eclectic line-up includes ASWAD and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra among many other great acts. As the name suggests, there’s also a huge variety of real ales to sample.
Also playing host to some fantastic Jazz this summer is Birmingham.
Fifty city venues have given up space to almost 200 performers during the event. The 200 acts currently confirmed include Pat McCarthy among other jazz favourites. With 25 years of festivals under its belt, the Birmingham jazz scene has well-established credentials.
Another great city centre festival in the Manchester Jazz Festival held from the 22-30 July. Most of the gigs here are also free and are being performed by over 400 jazz acts. Among these acts, both local and international talent can be found. Manchester Jazz Festival always manages to pull in a lot of support, with 20,000 jazz fans having attended the last event.
Brecon Jazz Festival offers the perfect opportunity to escape the city and breathe some real fresh air into your lungs all whilst listening to some great musicians. With an enviable location in the mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park, this festival delivers great music in an even better setting. The line-up’s fabulous, too, with the likes of the BBC Big Band set to perform.
