New York City’s Best Museums

New York Hotel Deals

One of the many things that Manhattan is known for are its many great museums. Most obviously there are art museums like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and the Guggenheim Museum, but in addition there are many other types of NYC museums such as the American Museum of Natural History and the wax museum.

Below you will find a quick summary of each of the five museums I just told you about in order for you to find out which museum you would most like to visit when you go to Manhattan. Free entry to all five of these NYC museums is a feature of the New York Pass.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art – This enormous art history museum is often referred to simply as “The Met” and while it is primarily a museum for art it is also actually more than just that. It’s a fantastic place to check out for anyone who is interested in history. The biggest drawback with museum is also its biggest positive; it is so huge that it can be a little bit overwhelming. It’s pretty much impossible to see it all in only one day.

The Museum of Modern Art – This museum is focused on people who are very interested in modern artwork. It includes works by Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh. I would have to say that this museum is probably not as “kid friendly” as some of the others on here. If you have little ones they may squirm.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum – Because of its quite unique architectural design the Guggenheim is more famous for what it looks like than its art collection. It was built by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the late 50s. It’s definitely worth going inside and checking it out (and of course the great artwork!) It is not as overwhelming as the other museums listed here.

The American Museum of Natural History – For most people I would say this should be the number one choice. It’s not only that it’s very “kid friendly” but that I believe it is interesting to more people. I just don’t see how any person can’t be curious about seeing a dinosaur’s skeleton with their very own eyes. It’s amazing to stand next to the enormous skeletons (there are also some skeletons from smaller dinosaurs, of course.)

Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum – This is a very “kid friendly” place. Your kids will likely get a real kick out of seeing wax statues of celebrities (both current and historical.) It’s pretty fun for adults too. It’s a good selection if you’re in a fun mood rather than a more serious one.

Whether you would like to visit any of these museums or not, you should certainly make use of the New York City Hotel Deals site to find the lowest rates on hotels in New York City.
