Wine is big business and for many traditional producing counties, exporting their vino makes a hefty contribution to the local economy. Coincidentally many of these countries also make a killing from tourism, what a delight then for the wine lovers among us to hear that tour operators are now combining tourism and wine to offer unique and exciting wine tasting holidays.
Whether you fancy jetting to to Jerez with its world reknowned rioja wine or boarding a plane to Bordeaux to visit the veritable wine Mecca of the Loire valley, these holidays offer a complete package including flights, accommodation, transfers and a week choc-full of wine related delights. Tasting will obviously be the major draw for anyone looking into a wine holiday, but you will also be able to embark on guided tours of vineyards and fermentation plants, learn how to concoct your own wines, and take master-classes in wine appreciation.
Why not combine you love for wine and travel by visiting a part of the world you would never have dreamt of before? The New Zeland wine industry is booming at the moment, just like its tourism trade. Having sky-rocketed in popularity after it was famously used as the setting of the Lord of the Rings films in the early 2000s, the stunning islands could also form the scene for your ultimate getaway. Marvel at the breath taking scenery, experience the cosmopolitan yet understated city of Aukland, and if youre feeling brave try out some of the extreme sports on offer such as zorbing or cliff-diving.
If youre more of a culture vulture than an intrepid adventurer then you may prefer to explore a historic European favourite such as Rome.
